LEGO-Based Therapy Training

Venue: PSI Offices, Floor 2, Grantham House, Grantham Street, Dublin 8
Date: 27th November, 28th November (teachers only)
Time: 9:30am – 4:30pm
Learning Credits: 4 per day

Fees: €340 (early bird rate of if booked €290 before 31st August 2017)

Rationale for Event:
To equip clinicians with the tools necessary to engage in Lego therapy with clients on the autistic spectrum or those with related social communication difficulties.

Teaching Objectives:

  • To introduce the theoretical background and rationale for using LEGO® bricks to facilitate social skills development in young people with social communication disorders / autism spectrum disorders.
  • To have practical exercises of using LEGO® in group work to experience LEGO® based therapy in action and to have the opportunity for discussion and questions
  • To have the knowledge, experience and skills to be able to set up and run your own LEGO®-based therapy groups.
  • To have an understanding of assessment and evaluation in LEGO®-based therapy.
  • To raise awareness of the existing research evidence base and the need for further research and evaluation

Qualifications and prior experience necessary:

  • Professional qualification in teaching, speech and language therapy, psychology, play therapy, occupational therapy or equivalent
  • Also suitable for specialist teaching assistants who have experience of working with people on the autism spectrum

Outline of Psychological Content:

  • Brief overview of the empathising/systemising theory of autism spectrum disorders and how this relates to LEGO®-based therapy
  • Practical guide of how to implement LEGO®-based therapy
  • Discussion of suitable outcome evaluation methods and measures
